It’s the penultimate episode of the FIRST half of the fifth season… and blood is sure to be spilled like gravy at Grady Memorial Hospital, now only a memory of its namesake as its corrupt cops sever the lives they once swore to protect in an era not long ago. Oh, and Rick & Co. have arrived to infiltrate its desolate ranks to retrieve a couple of their powerhouse leading ladies. With Sasha down, an untrustworthily sympathetic cop on the loose, and the tenuous two-for-two deal about to be placed on the table, Dawn is seemingly unspooling her tightly-wound system by encouraging Beth to save Carol, but she has no idea what she’s in for next. Meanwhile, Team GREATM tries to put the shattered pieces back together, and Michonne and the remnant of the Grimes clan boards up the church in which Father Gabriel can no longer cower. Yeah, that’s the gist of things. Here’s to surviving one of two finales that season five will deliver! Cheers to you, my daring darlings!

  1. If Tara dies before killing a walker with that yoyo I’m gonna be really
    pissed.

I hope someone gives Abraham a mission soon, ‘cos as annoying as he can get
when he has a goal to achieve, that’s infinitely better than seeing him in
    couch potato-mode.

  2. It’s gonna suck when the main group reconnects with Abraham’s group and
they say, “Maggie, we got bad news. Beth is dead”, and Maggie’s like,
“…who? Ohhhh yeah. I forgot about her”

  3. I’m guessing that when Father Gabriel saw Bob’s BBQ foot, it hammered home
the inhumanity of the group that Rick and team so bloodily dispatched. The
glass holding back the walkers will break and he’ll scamper back to the
church with school-house dead in hot pursuit. (Or would it be cold
pursuit?) He’ll crawl back into his room where he’ll need to deploy the
machete he left therein as zombies begin popping their noggins up through
the hole in the floor. Afterward, he will don a habit and insist the
others call him “Sister Gabrielle.” (Ok, maybe that last line was a
    sentence too far.)

  4. Great review Sofia but you didn’t mention any symbolism which was pretty
dense this episode! It kinda felt like a mirror image of the previous
episode ‘Consumed’ which was interwoven with symbolism of fire and smoke.
This time it was water and both fire and water are strong christian symbols
and since the title is ‘Crossed’ we should look for another clues and I
found a few. The ‘nailed’ foot was a pretty obvious christian symbol but
after a rewatch I noticed that just in the beginning of the episode after
father Gabriel asked: “Are you gonna take the cross, too?” The camera slid
down and Daryl stabbed the organ pipe under the camera just next to
Gabriel’s hip! Sounds familiar guys? And do you remember that shot in
‘Consumed’ when Daryl lit a cigaret with Carol in the background? The same
but mirrored composition was in the shot when Maggie drank water from the
bottle with Abraham in the background before she gave it to him. I love
    this show! :D

  5. Must be really beautiful near the coast ! I think Carol is about to go
quietly I know she is a fan favorite but as a charector she is morally and
emotionally lost. She doesn’t want to be part of the group and she feels
lots of conflicting guilts. I’m going out out on the limb here and say dawn
will join the group. I might be wrong but I said it! She is very conflicted
and not black and white as you mentioned.

  6. That scene where Daryl almost gets nabbed on the fingers by that walker was
intense, so was the ambiance in the following scene when Rick had his gun
up @ the cop’s face, you could just see and feel that if Daryl wasn’t
    there, Rick would’ve snapped!

  7. Getting El Kabonged with a walker skull had to be a very humiliating
experience for that guy, Bravo Daryl. I hope Tara and Rosita stick around
for a long while, I’m really liking them a lot. I’m thinking also that the
mid season finale won’t be the big battle but rather the build up for the
2nd half premiere. great review as always ^

  8. I liked this episode better then previous three because they finally
combined the storylines. They shoud’ve done this before though because i
think it feels a lot less slow and more faster paced. This episode made me
realise something. I’ve noticed before that Rick isnt Mister Nice Guy
anymore. He turned into a guy who kills first and ask questions later.
These are some predictions that arent based on anything but what if Rick
becomes so twisted that because of him and the choices that he makes some
of the people of his group die. And because of that, they decide to leave
or kill Rick? Is that to far fetched?

Because again, he is a very dangerous guy know. He has no limits. And yeah
he was making a plan and all that, but his plan was to kill everybody. And
a couple episodes ago he wanted to at least punch Abraham in the face if
not kill him. Since that moment in season 4 where he bit that dudes throat
he just lost it. I can even see him kill one of his own people in a rage
    moment, by accident or something.

I’m very curious what the season finale brings, and if a lead character
dies again. The promo doesn’t reveal much, but i hope Episode 8 is gonna
    blow me away again.

  9. I actually expected a little more this episode, maybe a bigger bang with
Dawn and her group? I don’t know, just one more pow-wow of bullets. I
imagine they’re waiting to shove it in our faces before the mid-season
finale. As always it was a nice touch to see the urban surroundings and
napalmed-zombiefied Plasters. Definitely need more of that. 😉
I can’t wait to see what Beth and Carol show us upon Carol’s awakening. I
think those two girls have probably grown the most in the series, with
a runaway train of emotional struggles. The same goes for Abraham and
Eugene though more in a subtle way. I don’t mind that we got to see all of
these lead characters meshing with other survivors, kind of for the first
time. It may have slowed down the episode in the process, but it will be
interesting to see what future partnerships and friendships come out of it.
Ha and I agree with Michonne being a ‘beautiful warrior princess’. And
father Gabriel is such a post-mess, I want to shake him and be like,
“Still!”. I’m hoping his role will payoff in the long run of the groups
development. We NEED the leaders of the group now, in place.
It’s going to suck when these months are on there mid-season hiatuses. Hope
to not see you gone for too long my friend. Your movie uploads are always
fun open-and-shut reviews to watch too :). January & February can’t get
here any faster, miss ya Em, enjoy your holiday vacation! :)

  10. those specs may not be good for every day attire, but i’d get a kick out of
them if you kept them to do that glasses nod at the beginning haha! not
sure if reality or not, you being outside your room O_O i thought it
seemed a little hap hazard having these 3 different arcs..just kept
flipping amongst one another. next week should be dandy! i really wish
ppl would quit talking rick out of doing the necessary things like gunning
the enemies down like a rabid dog – walter white or tony soprano wouldn’t
hesitate in doing so to save themselves.

  11. Dawn is definitely up to something. I don’t believe for a second she
actually wanted Beth to help Carol. I think she’s going to try using Beth
as an example to the other cops that you DON’T undermine her and get away
with it. I really really hope I’m wrong and Beth is ok, though.

  12. Such a cutie pie you are Emily. Another good episode. With Tara being
pregnant in real life im expecting her to die maybe in the mid season
finale or maybe in the second half of season. We saw him in a big surprise
at the end of the staart and i predict we will see him at the end of the
mid finale – Father meets Morgan
